If you’re a busy mom or dad working to support your family on a budget, then you probably already know that there are tons of blogs across the web that can help you make the most of your money. In fact, there is a good chance you are already a regular visitor on a few blogs that offer advice on savings and personal finance.
If however you haven’t explored the blogosphere much yet, it can be a bit overwhelming to sort through the endless search results when looking for some helpful information on how to save more and spend less.
For this reason, we’ve decided to share our pick of the Top 5 Savings Blogs for US shoppers. Continue reading to learn why these sites made the list and why you should be visiting them today!
Super Savings Blog #1: Frugal Dad
Founded by Jason White back in 2007, Frugaldad.com is an outstanding source of free information on personal finance and wise spending habits for families. His dead simple savings tips have been featured in the New York Times and BusinessInsider, among others.
What we love the most about FrugalDad is the level of transparency when it comes to all matters of personal finance. In particular, their “Guide to Credit Cards” resource is truly the most comprehensive collection of tutorials and tips on the subject of credit cards and how credit agencies operate.
Since credit cards are a necessary evil for most modern day consumers, we highly recommend bookmarking his guide because you are sure to learn a thing or two as you read through the helpful chapters. It will guide you through everything from the credit card application process to how to perform a balance transfer and much more.
Super Savings Blog #2: Simple Mom
Started by Tsh Oxenreider in 2008, SimpleMom.net is an outstanding resource for any head of the household. This blog really goes beyond offering great advice on how to save money. It also features entire sections devoted to kids, relationships, food, DIY, productivity and organization to name a few.
With over 70,000 Twitter followers and upwards of 40,700 email subscribers, we are definitely not the only fans of SimpleMom.
In addition to offering one of the most solid sources of savings advice for family-oriented individuals, Tsh has also published more than one eBook in the Kindle store to help more people transform their financial and personal lives.
We especially recommend checking out “One Bite at a Time: 52 Projects for Making Life Simpler,” which is a collection of some of her best blog content presented in small parts that are easy for consumption. The book also features tons of brand new content and provides readers with actionable tasks to start managing their lives. Best of all, it’s only five dollars and you can read it on your Amazon Kindle device immediately.
Super Saving Blog #3: Almost Frugal
We can thank Kelly Rigotti for this amazing savings blog. She started writing for the blog back in 2007 and today she has welcomed on several more contributors who post content to help people spend smart. We love the link in the main navigation that reads “New? Start Here,” since it will take first time visitors to a page that lists all of the most popular pages and posts from each category, allowing you to start browsing the site and seeing the value it has to offer.
Besides the sheer volume of helpful tips and information in their blog, we have to give AlmostFrugal extra points because they offer special rates for moms who are business owners if they would like to buy advertising on the site. We think that’s pretty neat.
Super Savings Blog#4:Money Saving Mom
You know a blog has got to be pretty amazing when it was started by endless requests and downright popular demand – which is exactly how Money Saving Mom came to be. Founder Crystal Paine first shared some tips for bargain shopping on a previous blog years ago and was quickly swamped with feedback and questions from readers dying to know how she fed her family on such a modest budget.
Despite going on to write an entire ebook on the topic and offering an ecourse on top of that, the interest didn’t wan at all. And so it started – MoneySavingMom.com has bloomed into a huge online resource for savings tips and tools for the financially conscious household.
Crystal now has a full team that helps her manage and run the blog, which may even be slightly overwhelming at first glance. Here are some highlights that we were especially fond of:
MoneySavingMom has a whole section of free downloads like meal planners and goal planning worksheets to make your life easier and get things done more efficiently.
To maximize your savings, MSM has pages dedicated to coupons, store deals, freebies, giveaways and much more.
They also accept submissions from readers who want to share their own DIY projects, guest posts and even share new deals with the rest of their community.
Super Savings Blog#5: The Simple Dollar
Trent Hamm knows his stuff. Not only has he written over 3,000 articles for TheSimpleDollar, but he’s also the author of two books that are literally jam-packed with savings tips. The second of which is titled “The Simple Dollar: How One Man Wiped Out His Debts and Achieved the Life of His Dreams,” which is pretty self-explanatory.
Like many of the other blog founders in this list, Trent was able to dig himself out of a tremendous amount of debts and blogs to share his experience with others who struggle to regain their financial freedom.
We had to include this savings blog of epic proportions because of the variety they offer in terms of resources and downloads to help you get your saving habits on the right track. While his book is available as a Kindle download for only $8.79, you can also sample Mr. Hamm’s writing by downloading his free 49-page ebook titled, “Everything You Ever Really Needed to Know About Personal Finance on Just One Page.”
Last but not least, be sure to check out his collection of free downloadable ebooks and reports that you can print and share with friends and family. All these reports are priced at two bucks and you can grab your copy by visitng the blog today.
Surprise Blogger: YOU!
Notice a common theme among these blogs, besides the topic? They were all started by normal people just like us, who found themselves in very similar positions. Their blogs have helped them turn their personal struggles into a source of inspiration and guidance for others to help avoid the same mistakes and start reaping the benefits of smart savings starting right now. Time to read up!
We get a ton of enquiries every month about the Kindle Fire – primarily about how it compares to the other players in the tablet market. So instead of writing a dull article to answer the question, we thought we’d put together an infographic comparing what we consider “The Big 3 ” of the tablet world: iPad 3 vs Nexus 7 vs Kindle Fire.
Please let us know what you think in the comments section… Also, feel free to share this infographic on your own blog, as long as you attribute a link to www.APCodes.com
Reading this post, you’re no doubt aware of the great prices that Amazon offers thanks to their regular promotions and promo codes. What you may not be aware of just how many extra incentive programs Amazon actually offers or how many additional ways exist for you to save even more money when you shop with them. Here we’ll highlight a handful of the most practical and useful ways you can save more of your hard-earned Dollar when shopping on Amazon:
Super Saver #1: Amazon Prime (take me there)
If you love shopping on Amazon, but you’re not a big fan of waiting five to seven days for your orders to arrive in the mail, then Amazon Prime may be a great way to speed up the process (and save some cash). Membership to the program runs just under eighty dollars per year and guarantees two day shipping on all Amazon Prime eligible items. For Amazon shoppers who are not Prime members, two day shipping typically costs an extra eight bucks or so.
If you shop on Amazon often and need to get your orders delivered quickly, the savings can quickly become substantial enough to justify the yearly fee. Amazon Prime membership comes with several extra perks as well, which we will come back to in a moment. Join Prime Here.
Super Saver #2: Subscribe & Save
Do you regularly stock up on certain items from Amazon, like laundry soap or other cleaning products? If you answered yes, then we hope you are taking full advantage of Amazon’s Subscribe & Save program to get an even sweeter deal! So how does this program work, exactly? It’s very simple. First, you choose an eligible item that you shop for on a consistent basis, then you choose the details like quantity and how often you need the product delivered. Next, you choose which credit card you want to use for payment and you will be billed on this card each time your subscription ships in the future. Oh yes, and shipping is free for subscription orders too!
All products purchased as part of a subscription receive an additional discount as well, and you will have the peace of mind that comes with knowing exactly when to expect your products each month or however often you need them. Subscribe and save can be cancelled at any time, there is no obligation to continue using the service if you no longer need a certain item. Subscribe Here.
Super Saver #3: Amazon Mom
This is really hands down one of the best options for parents with young children who shop on Amazon. If you purchase products like diapers and wipes, then this is a must! While membership in this program costs the same as Amazon Prime ($80 per year), it’s a much smarter option for parents since it comes with all of the same benefits that Prime offers, PLUS a twenty percent discount on diapers and wipes products that you subscribe to.
Want to try it out before you decide? Currently, Amazon is offering a free three month trial for Amazon Mom and you are free to cancel at any time as well. This is a great way for busy parents to avoid more trips to the store, where you are sure to spend way more than you need to on these products for your children. Try it out here.
Super Saver #4: Amazon Associates
While this program may not be for everyone, it can be a simple and easy way to cover the costs of some purchases you make on Amazon. Do you maintain a blog, or use social sites like Twitter and Facebook? If you chat with friends or other parents on social media sites, then why not recommend your favorite Amazon products and receive a commission when one of them decides to purchase that item based on your endorsement? That’s exactly how Amazon Associates works, and it’s free to join. Once you’re signed up, Amazon will give you special links to post anywhere on the web and buyers who purchase after clicking on it will be helping you make some extra spending money for your next Amazon shopping spree!
Super Saver #5: Cash In On Coinstar
If you use CoinStar machines to convert your coins to cash, then this savings tip is of particular interest. Anyone who has used a CoinStar machine knows that it will keep nearly ten percent of your money. Ouch! Did you know that you can instead receive an Amazon gift card and the machine will not keep ANY of your money? You heard that right, you get 100% of your total and you can put it towards your next purchase from Amazon.
This is a great way to make your child’s savings go further when they bust open that piggy bank, and they can find whatever item they want to buy on Amazon so why not get a better price for those prizes?
As you can see, the amount of money you can save with Amazon is much more than meets the eye. Since you can’t beat their already low prices, these extra savings tips can really sweeten the pot further and we’re willing to bet that trying a few of these ideas will turn you into a loyal Amazon shopper in no time at all. The best news of all is that we have only scratched the surface in this list, so stay tuned for more great tips for saving money on Amazon.
